Topic 1 What is the Initiation Phase?

The project management life cycle of every project starts with the Initiation Phase. The initiation phase aims to define the context and the concept of the project, to develop its marketing and profitable business characteristics, and successfully gain the funds in order to implement it. During this phase, the project manager will need to develop the following tasks:

  • Perform a feasibility study
  • Create a project charter
  • Identify key stakeholders
  • Select project management tools

By the end of this phase and with the delivery of the above tasks, the project manager should obtain a complete understanding on the context, concept, purpose, objectives, vision, goals, requirements, and risks of the project.
